Leaving your lugage at the hotel over the weekend
We cover this briefly in the luggage section, but we thought this is worth emphasizing. If you are traveling to the same location week after week, in many cases you can leave your luggage at the hotel. Traveling with only a handbag is great, gives you more flexibility when waiting to board.

One of our readers highlighted that this is especially helpful for women who often carried lots more than their male teammates. She usually leaves a bag with workout clothes, running shoes, toiletries, hairbrush, curling iron, suits, etc. ( thank you JC). I would add that if your firm lets you do laundry at the hotel you can leave almost every thing and travel with only you briefcase.

Business travel in the holiday season....
As some heavy travel holidays are coming here are a few dos and don’t for business travel around the holidays…..

1. Get to the airport early…..people dropping family off can bring traffic to a crawl…..security lines can triple or more in length………

2. Print your boarding pass to home……check in lines get to be radicals’……this is when you want to jump directly to the security line

3. Book hotels/flights early…..especially if the holiday falls in mid week hotels and airplane seats get taken up quickly…..nothing success more than staying at super 8 since the four seasons was booked up!!!

Bad weather the night before you fly out
If there is very bad weather the night before you fly out, make sure to double check your flights even if the weather clears up.....

If the planes could not land in the evening, in many cases the early morning flights get cancelled….also, the check-in lines get crazy due to people that got stuck the night before trying to rebook their flight and fly out

Carrying on Liquid and gels e.g. soap, aftershave lotion, etc.

Getting up in time
Some folks I like to carry thier own travel alarm clock. As a forum members wrote" Wake up calls are notoriously unreliable, and it can take forever to figure out how to program a hotel alarm. A travel alarm doesn't weigh much, and I have total peace of mind knowing I'll wake up in time for my meeting and/or flight. I use a Timex model with indiglo, so I can check the time if I wake up at night." check out the equipment page for sample clocks.

Tunes on the plan
A favorit for many are the Bose noise cancelling headphones.Yes, you look like a geek. Yes, it's one more thing to carry. But on a transcontinental or transoceanic flight, it's a lot less wear and tear. check out the equipment page for more details .

One great deal is the AMEX Platinum Card. Among other benefits, it gets you into Delta, Northwest, and Continental airline lounges (day of travel only). The card may be expensive, but it saves joining these three clubs. Also, the free companion tickets for international travel are no joke. Expensive card, but it pays off.
